Thumbs up Military base closings!

Am I the only one that finds it ironic and oxymoronish (yes I made that tense up) to close military bases while we are off in some oil rich nation fighting a manufactured war? No one knows yet just how much this will impact local economies. How can we be off engaged in an oil war somewhere, and at the same time be closing military bases and stifling local economies even more?

I guess I am just ranting/venting because this hurts our local community greatly! The Willow Grove Naval Air Station is 3 miles down the road. It employs about 7800 people and pumps about $375 million a year for the area economy.

Well I guess we need to pay for W' and his daddys war somehow!

(1) Yeah, California took a big hit -- again.

(2) We never discuss anything in a civil way.

Short term, I think this is a good idea. We're pissing away a lot of money in Iraq and Afghanistan, we should make some efforts to save money at home.

Long term, I think it's a horrible idea. There are a lot of reserve bases and training centers getting the axe, in a time when we need more of those. And the savings of $5.5B/year when we spend over $400B/year for military doesn't seem much worth it.
