Do you enjoy drinking in Japan? The last time I was there, I was totally confused.. I was hanging out with friends and they ordered a few drinks..
then suddenly all this food started rolling out..
no tv's and no loud music was nice (although i do like occasionally looking at a tv), but all the food and stuff through me off..
i'm used to going out to drink... just drink..

I know that feeling .... when I go out drinking with my western friends it is down to the pub and drinking, standing up usually, and the saying goes that "eating is cheating" ...... when I go out with Japanese friends it is down to a local isakaya or the like, sat round a table eating and drinking .......
I found it really strange one evening. We had just won a HUGE project in our office (US$700 million over 4 years) so everyone from the director down went out for dinner to celebrate ..... once that meal was over (1 1/2 hours on the dot) the director went off home and the rest of us went on to sarry on drinking ..... but we went to a noodle bar to drink, so that everyone could have noodles as well
but we had only just finished eating at that point .... any way, after that, the younger crowd decided that we would go on somewhere else once the older guys headed home .... so we ended up in an isakaya ordering more food and beer
it just seems like that Japanese way of drinking ALWAYS involves food at the same time .....
