I miss Powells. What do you like to read? Camu is always good for a laugh, try the Plague.

What are some good classic books to read? I'm going to Powells tomorrow to pick up some used books

How about Moby Dick?

Seriously - if you haven't read it yet you've still got time before back to work.

If you're really really serious have a go at the "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy.

I like just about everything. I'm trying to broaden my mind! I have been reading a lot of non-fiction stuff lately, but I'll read anything.

Sounds great! I don't know why I put "classic" in there...

I'm just looking for some good reads

Thanks!

Not sure if you'd find any of Douglas Copeland's works in your neck of the woods, but he's an interesting writer. I'd recommend JPod or Girlfriend in a Coma. Another book you may not find, but I would recommend is Missing Sarah by Maggie Devries. It's written by the sister of one of the many women who worked in Vancouver's sex trade and disappeared. It's not about the crime at all, but more about this woman trying to find out who her sister really was. It's a touching story.
I also liked Paulo Coelho's Veronika Decides to Die and pretty much everything by Augusten Burroughs if you haven't read it already. The man is hilarious.

Right now I'm reading The Kindness of Strangers, edited by Dan George. It's a collection of true stories of people who experienced some kind of random kindness during their world travels. Most of the non-fiction I read tends to be depressing, so this is a nice switch. Oh! Speaking of...I also recently read The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway. Although the characters are fictitious, it's based on the attack that killed 22 people waiting in line for bread. I didn't hear about it on the news at the time, but this man decided to play at the place of the attack - one day for each person killed.

If you want something a little more 'feel good' you should also read Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. I had no idea this cat existed, although he was world famous. Aaaaaand one more The Faith Club: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew - Three Women Search for Understanding. All I can say is that if more people were like these women, the world would be a much better place.

Okay, that was probably the longest post the Corner has seen in a long time.

Er...uh...I'd stick with Melville or Tollkein if you haven't been there yet.

Not that the previous post was over long or anything.
