My fall colors tour... Lots of pics!
Cops used to patrol the actual dragon, but they don't anymore... it's very unsafe to actually make a stop on the road. They do, however, heavily enforce the 3 roads that lead to it. I've talked to cops before (just stopped and said hi for various reasons), been yelled at ("slow down! slow down!") and been paced for several miles before, but never had an incident... knock on wood
Cops typically sit at one end or the other, venturing up onto the Dragon only to pick up the pieces/write accident reports.
I have an on-bike video of 4 passes back and forth from the T-O-D overlook to the Crossroads of Time store, including one run that had a minimum of traffic, so I was able to make that run in just under 11 minutes
When I lived in B'ham, we'd take the bikes up there 4 or 5 times/year. I've tried driving it in a car; it's just not as fun. And yes, I have dropped the bike up there. Twice. Once, locked up the front going into the left-hander (heading south) before Copperhead, no real damage to the bike (took 4 of us to drag it up from below the road!) and once, in the wet, on the first horn. That one was funny, like a Laugh-In fall - lowsided, slid on my ass for about 20 feet, was able to get up, turn around, and ride back north to warn my buddy to slow down!
My brother tried chasing me one time, me on the bike, he in his Targa - he said I had the back of the bike sliding out of every corner
