The question is can you get 18" wheels that don't add too much weight...? And the cost of those extremely low-profile 18" tires...

You can get 'em, Jack.. Not sure how, but Barry in Wyoming has a set.

one of the Toronto members has them...but only puts them on for show because of that.

That's the trick, Les. Most 18" wheels carry a lot of extra weight, and that weight is mostly in the outer rim. So, yeah, you need more torque to get the wheel spinning.

If you've got the bux, though, you can make it worthwhile, I think.
