San Francisco, CA. (AP) - A rare South American flightless bird was charged with stalking and burglary after swimming nude across the San Francisco Bay in search of internationally known clothing and shoe connoisseur Racer Chick's waterfront residence and getting caught near her neighbor's home.
Police said NikePenguin squawked, "Maryann! Save me!" as he was taken away Feb. 06. He is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday.
NikePenguin, age unknown, who sports an "I (heart) RC" tattoo on his right flipper, was found in the swimming pool of a house three doors from Racer Chick's $5 million home.
"He thought he was at Racer Chick's home," Officer Nakdboardr wrote in a police report.
Police said NikePenguin acknowledged that he spent several months searching for her address on the Internet and swam nude 200 yards after locating it.
NikePenguin sent Racer Chick "numerous letters and posted e-mails to her Web page" and "made several alarming statements on an S2KI message board known as the CORNER indicating that he believed Ms. Racer Chick had left a door unlocked for him to enter her residence and left clothing for him to wear as if she was expecting his arrival," police said.
WestSideBilly, Racer Chick's Fort Fun-based publicist, said in a statement that what happened "has caused Maryann to be very concerned and fearful for her safety," calling the allegations "extremely alarming and threatening." Racer Chick was cooperating with prosecutors and "consulting with her personal security team."
At San Francisco police headquarters, NikePenguin "refused to stand for a photograph" and demanded the air conditioning be turned down as low as possible. He became "hostile and belligerent," assumed a "penguin
