Okay, time to moan about Japan ......
Not really a moan, just thought I would fill you in on how I spent my morning ......
I had to get my driving license renewed .... they last for up to 3 years in Japan.
So I turn up at the renewal office at 8:30, I get a form filled out and get sent to the eye test ... this consisted of correctly spotting the break in a "o" (whether it was at the top, left, right or bottom) of 3 symbols. Eye test complete (3 out of 3 for me
) I am then sent to window where I have to give them my old license and they put a stamp on the form. I then have to take this form to another window and pay my money, where they put a second stamp on it. Then on to get my photo taken, where they take half the form. This is where the fun starts. I get sent to desl "ni jyu" (20) when I arrive there I am told that I have to go to a 2 hour lecture ...... IN JAPANESE !! I inform them that I don't in fact speak Japanese, and am politely told that I still have to go to the 2 hours lecture in Japanese. I then sit through the lecture (1 hour in fact) followed by a 1 hour video on the dangers of drinking and driving .... which is ..... IN JAPANESE !! You then have to answer about 35 multiple choice questions, IN JAPANESE, which I was a little worried about, until I found at that they don't in fact bother marking you on these, they just tell you that if you answered "A" to any of them, you should read up on that part of the highway code because you got it wrong !!!After "passing" this part of the process I them got another stamp on the half of the form that I had left, and was then sent to another room, where I collected my new license .....
Pretty much a waste of 2 1/2 hours for me, but at least I have a new license now
