And there are two Americanisms that get me as well -

Math
Spelled

both of those sound so wrong to me

What do you mean about "math" and "spelled"... Obviously, since I'm American, I don't even know what you object to. (other than the fact that I ended that last sentence with a preposition )

The full word is Mathematics therefore we say "Maths" not "Math". Math just sounds really weird to me .......

Also, in English the past tense of spell is spelt, not spelled, you would sound pretty silly if you said to a teacher in England, "oops I have just realised that I spelled that wrong"

Can't tell you how wrong "maths" sounds to me. "Spelt," I grok that.
