Turns out Ratzinger was Hitler youth. Not that I make anything of it. Kid was 14 and it was mandatory. Good article here.

I know. If you read the article and not just the headline it creates a fairly understandable situation. I take a hard stance that atrocities toward a people is never forgivable. I would also say that there are usually innocents on all sides of a conflict.

If saying the above makes you think I'm soft on the holocaust then I'm not doing a good job explaining.

I know that some Jewish people and some non-Jews have already expressed their disapproval.

Hell it could be worse... He could have used his Dad's prominence and gotten a soft detail during the war and then gone awol. Hmmm.... that story
