Most folks over 50 would say there has been. Figuring out why may be more difficult, but if you look at the statistics over the 50 years it starts to become a little more clear. To see this data in a graphical format really drives home how much America has changed over the last 50 to 60 years The charts below have the agency that the data came from listed at the bottom of each graph. We are not just pulling numbers out of a hat, this is accepted as factual data. The decline in the number of words after 1963 was because there was less content in general. The percentage of text devoted to evolution remained about the same.
Rate of INCREASE for child abuse This is the most disturbing statistic of all for us at Darkness Into Light. Child abuse is the most horrible act anybody can perpetrate. But this alone is not enough to convince even me that our great country is in a moral decline. So maybe we should look at a couple of other factors now.
Rate of INCREASE in violent crimes Violent crimes are another very good indicator of any moral decline. Notice how the population level is also included in the graph. Some people have tried to claim that the reason for more violent crime is because we have more people everywhere now. That does make sense, until you actually see that the population growth was much lower that the growth in violent crimes. Do you feel safe when you are out alone? 60 years ago a young girl could get stuck along the side of a road with a flat tire and it would be unthinkable to consider that she may be in any danger. In fact, she would be helped by one of the first people to see her in distress. Today, not only is it not unthinkable, it is one of the first things most people would think of if they even heard of any young girl getting stuck on the side of a road. She would be considered lucky to get home safe today.
Rate of INCREASE in divorce rates You may wonder what divorce rates have to do with a moral decline in our country. It is really simple. Most people who divorce have children. No matter how good a single parent is, it will never replace what a decent 2 parent home offers to a child. It is part of God’s plan for us to marry and have children, to raise those children together and making sure your child has the proper influences in their life’s. We love all our single parent friends and family and their children. But it is well known that raising a child alone is a very difficult job.
Rate of INCREASE of unwed mothers giving birth This could certainly be a factor in the moral decline of America. Just think how high this number would be without all the abortions (over 40 million) performed since roe vs. wade. I should have put up another graph just for abortions. Let’s not go there right now.
Rate of INCREASE for sexually transmitted disease The numbers are similar for other ages as well. And the last statistic we finally have something that didn’t increase. Unfortunately it is the one statistic I thing most people would agree would be very good to have an increase in.
Rate of DECREASE in test scores Why would evolution being taught in schools cause a moral decline? That is a very good question that we have an answer to. We believe that children who are taught in school that they have evolved from an ape or even worse, from pond scum, will begin to loose their faith in a God that Created them. To believe that you evolved from some lower life form diminishes a person’s sense of self worth and instills an attitude that there really is no purpose to our life here. When so many people start to have this type of changed attitude about life, it is no surprise that society will take on that same attitude of life having no meaning. When that happens, you can expect a moral decline.Why worry about your actions if they are bad or hurt somebody else, you will never be required to atone for those actions if there is no God. If you believe in God, you tend to make much better decisions in your life for fear of judgment from God.

It has never made it past the “theory” stage. In fact, there is much scientific evidence to support the Biblical account of Creation as told in the book of Genesis. But you can’t find any of that evidence in school textbooks even though it is out there, just check around this website to see some of it. Many people have the false impression that Creation, or Intelligent design, can not be taught in school because of the separation of church and state. This is simply not true. The societies of past generations have always had a healthy fear of “God”. Not so much anymore in today’s world. Why should people fear God if they have been taught in school that God is not even real. The schools don’t come right out and say that, but to insist to their students that evolution is fact infers to the students that we were not created, we evolved.
