Recent signs of Armageddon?
Bountiful, UT. Buzz, ding, ding, ding, ding. I had a client, Jim Cobb, who was President of Raymark Industries in Berwyn, PA. I did a big site investigation/remediation project for him in Fullerton, CA. Jim is a great, great guy. Do you know him?
Personally, I think the the outbreak of terrorism in recent years is more media hype. I'm not saying that I think 9/11 didn't happen or deny that it is a turning point in how the US views their place in the world, but the reality is that terrorism has been a MAJOR threat to stability in the world for longer than I've been alive and it's just that it's not targeted towards US soil that makes us sit up and take notice.
As for the outbreak of disease, I guess that depends on how you define "today" in the scheme of things. AIDS and Ebola and others have been around for a few decades. SARS...that's another animal. Do I think that disease is a natural selection way of thining the herd? Of course. Is it a sign of the end? Depends. Not the end of the world, but possibly an end to human life.
Peace in Jerusalem? When's the last time we had THAT?
I actually think it's all teething pains of the human race. We're all starting to realize that, as the world effectively shrinks, we need to change the way we deal with each other. Unfortunately, when cornered, humans aren't a particularly pleasant bunch and we tend to lash out toward others.
As for me, I'll just pop some popcorn and sit back and watch the show...

I don't think there are more wars then there used to be, just look at history, we've been waring, CONSISTENTLY for as far as you look.
The world is NOT a static place. Betting that the human race just might be crazy enough to blow itself up, is like betting that FOX is gonna have another reality TV show. I don't think the writers of the bible were onto anything, they just stated the obvious.... of course I could be wrong

I will comment on disease. An off-hand comment made by Raptor made me think about the recent advent of diseases, particularly benign life threatening ones such as HIV/AIDS, SARS, etc.
Prior to the advent of modern medicine in the 19th century, a common cold was life threatening, and influenza was a quick road to dying. Diseases like small pox, bubonic plague, etc wiped out large groups of people. With decades of medical advances, the common cold and even influenza are treated at a corner drug store, small pox has been nearly eradicated, and most diseases are quickly identified and cures found. Mother nature likes balance, and the way she balances Humans' ability to treat disease is to make more resistent, more persistent, and deadlier diseases to fight back the population growth. In other words, mother nature has had to step up her game. Thus, we have HIV and SARS.
I don't believe in the Apocolypse. It's a modernized scare tactic to get people to go to church, because the old scare tactics don't work anymore.
Your other points:
- There has always been terrorism, and there will always be terrorism. The scale of the 9/11 attacks just made it more in-your-face.
- There has always been war, and there will always be war. Unlimited wants and limited resources will always lead to 2 things: new ways of acquiring resources, and killing people to get their resources.
- No, there will never be peace in the Mideast, not until some crazy
er nukes the whole damn place.
