Right now, play some audio of a child crying and a dog barking on the con-call!

What does that do?
On a slippery road, it locks the rear tires up. Because non rotating tires have so little grip, the rear will slide in whatever direction it was going. So a small steering input combined with the e-brake will create a substantial yaw moment - spinning the car around - much better than just turning the front wheels more. By far the best way to negotiate turns.

Yeah, I thought maybe you had a way of using the e-brake lightly and not making the car more-likely to spin...

You don't really yank it, just progress into the e-brake until you get lock.

Right now, I once taught my sister how to get her car into parallel parking spaces on the opposite side of the street by timing her steering, throttle, and E-brake inputs to spin the car in a 180 and have it come to a stop next to the curb on the opposite side of the street. (I taught her this in my old Supra). The 1st time she attepted the manuever solo (in her brand new GTI at age 21) , she started with way to much speed, caught the curb with both wheels and rolled up ono the sidewalk and into a coffee shop entrance, upside down.
I have since retired from driving instruction.
