Right Now XXIII
Right now train derailment on my train line is making me seek alternate means home.
Freight Train Derailment in Waldwick Impacting Service on Main, Bergen County and Port Jervis Lines
Effective Date: August 11, 2008
Shortly before 2 p.m. this afternoon, a Norfolk Southern freight train derailed in Waldwick, NJ, blocking 2 of 3 available tracks on the Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis lines. Crews are on scene working to clear the derailed cars as quickly as possible. However, the incident is expected to impact the evening peak period.
NJ TRANSIT is advising Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis customers to expect delays of 30-60 minutes on trains traveling through the Waldwick area. Some trains may be combined to reduce railroad congestion, and customers may experience crowding conditions as a result.
To provide customers with additional travel options, cross honoring is in effect with NJ TRANSIT and private carrier buses. All rail tickets and passes may be used for similar bus trips.
Buses will substitute for trains in the inbound direction only between Allendale and Waldwick stations. (Inbound customers will travel by train from Suffern to Allendale, by bus from Allendale to Waldwick, then by train from Waldwick to Secaucus/Hoboken.)
