Right now, adding for Monica, biology is often a weed out class... for engineering, it's usually chemistry or physics, but biology was the weed out class for a lot of other majors. So it's unnecessarily difficult, which is unfortunate because I think that chases people away from pursuing interests when the first class in a sequence is that hard.
Right now, if you survive Biology, the next weed-out class is usually Organic Chem - my sister switched majors after O-Chem.
Right now I switched majors after Organic Chem as well.

Right now I remember my father's response after I got a C in Organic Chem.

Right now I'm saying my dad said something like, "What's so hard about Organic Chem? I aced that course."

Right now I work in corporate finance instead of being a doctor.

Right now I blame lack of discipline and

Right now, and probably always, O-Chem was a weedout for both the biology and chemistry/chem eng majors (who presumably aced the Chem 101 test that the rest of us failed struggled with) at Hoton Tech.

For MEs it was Chem 101, then Thermo as the 300 level weedout. Although Thermo varied by professor. The guy that wrote the book was brutally hard, the other guy wasn't. Controls was the final weedout (I remember helping some MSU students prepare for their controls final by explaining what I had to learn in the first 3 classes ). I actually enjoyed that class, which was, after 3 years, the first sign I might actually be in the right field....

... until I got into senior design, which shot off red flags like it was nobody's biz, but it was too late by then.

Right now, thank you for the support! I'm feeling WAY better starting with BI101. I was pretty much the only person answering the teacher today when she was asking us questions I have never taken a bio or chem class before, so I was feeling like I was in over my head I'm feeling much better now After this I'll take cell biology and micro biology. I only have to take 8 more classes before I apply to nursing school!!! So excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might be bugging you guys for help with bio stuff if I get stuck

Right now a surprising number of you have done bio and Chem in college.

Did organic chemistry in high school. Went pretty well but I knew I could never get into anything science-y.

Right now, lemme say that I took Chem (with a sub unit on O-Chem), Biology, Physics, and general Earth Sciences in high school.

Right now, still chuckling with glee on my first day of Math 103, with the teacher who wrote the entrance exams for all incoming Freshmen. . .

Right now, it's worth noting the chuckle, she wrote the test and graded all the incoming Freshmen, including me. . . I was in Math 103 (Introduction to Mathematics and Number Systems aka Math for non-sciences and business majors). . . but she knew I had passed all the way through to second semester Calculus at the University (according to the test).
