are you on XP? if you go into "services" in the control panel and disable messenger from automatically starting up it'll stop these. I hate these fockers. Also pick up Ad-Aware, it catches about 80% of that crap that installs intself.

My latest peev is "GAIN" which does the same thing but pops them up through IE. I don't use IE so I never new where GAIN came from, then I used it for some reason and every page you load, it loads a new ad. Insidious shit.

Plus GAIN doesn't show up in the uninstall menu so you need to get a Registry reader to nuke it.

actually, i got this weird one the other day when i downloaded UT2k4. some weird program that popped up in my control panel. fortunately adaware caught it after loading up over 50 things in my registry
