I went back through my order e-mails and was. I didn't make many big purchases, but I found one for about $230 that I didn't pay taxes on, so I'll claim that and be a good citizen of this shitty state.

 

I don't know if we've got that in Mass. Actually, if it's a tax, I'm sure we do.

I think every state has a sales tax, Chaz. And I'm pretty sure every state has a line on their tax return form to pay any sales tax you didn't pay at time of purchase.

 

Shows how much attention I've paid to that, Jeff. Well, I've barely bought anything over the internet except for this Compaq.

 

Check that - 5 states have no sales tax. One of them is Oregon which I should have remembered. Alaska, Montana, New Hampshire, and Delaware are the others.

The law applies to any purchase made out of state where you didn't pay sales tax at the point of purchase - which could include mail order, phone purchases, or something like buying a used car (though most BMV/DMVs make you pay that use tax in order to register the car).

 

Right, with a car you always pay at registration (at least in MA).
