Not sure you will remember but I was ranting about this a year or so ago, I would say 5 of our top 15 brands were bought out by School Specialty a direct marketer..so in essence our suppliers became our competition!
I'm talking about at least 3 of the biggest brands in supplemental education (think Nike, Reebok, Adidas) it splintered the whole industry...they wrote exclusive contracts with schools to provide materials at 35% off of retail in exchange for being the sole source vendor. This killed our PO business. I can only imagine what private money is going to do to this already awful situation!
