"Africa" is not a country either, yet there are "African-American" clubs and threads. Nobody calls themselves by the country their family is from.
Also, "white" is pretty much all Americans with European backgrounds can label themselves. It's not so much like Asian or Latin cultures who tend to keep the bloodline intact... even I'm like 7/8 Swedish and 1/8 a couple other things.
But, I totally get where you're coming from.
