4th (last) down (a down can be a tackle, incomplete pass, whatever), 33 yards to go to make a 1st down (and get another 4).....

You get 4 "downs" to go 10 yards. If you do, you get another 4 downs to go another 10 yards and so on as you march down the field to the opposing goal line....it is very military.
