Semi-Official Welcome to Shareall thread IX
Ooooh you know that really grinds my gears when big companies do shit like that. I remember years ago when pop used to come in 600mL bottles and then all of a sudden one day the bottles were actually 591mL, but of course the same price.
I thought I watched something about this on tv recenty, but of course I can't remember the details.

There are numerous studies showing that people rarely look at the cost/volume but are VERY sensitive to the fixed dollar cost.
The ice cream companies found out long ago that raising prices even 5-10 cents had a large impact on their sales; but reducing the size of the container 10% or did not. Soda and juice bottlers caught on (many 20 oz are now 16.9, many gallons are now 100 oz). In an even more ingenious maneuver, the companies found that if they reduced their "base" size from 64 ounce to 48 ounce, they could then sell a 56 oz product at the 64oz price, labeled with "17% more free!" and their sales would go up.
People are stupid and are unwilling to consider true costs.

And if you want all of our 7-11s back, you can have those. I have no need for their $10 pints of ice cream.

I prefer to buy ice cream in what used to bue half gallon containers which recently have shrunk to quart and half containers. Less quantity but the same price
Less than a third of a mile I think.
