See, that's the kind of thing that deters me.
I never had any issues with my bike out west. Maybe because I wasn't out there long enough/didn't ride enough for something to go wrong. Worst snowstorm in recorded history FTL.

Meh, you can just dump em in the bay, but look at the tide charts first before you take the holiday for a boat ride. Roseville is a good place to find dates in the early afternoon...

Quick tips:
Phase 1.
Wipe off any thorns first. Use two nylon tire "irons", slide off tire, run gloved fingers around the inside of the tire casing for thorns. Place old tire in kit, and new tire on rim. Reseat tire, roll lightly around rim by hand, pump up and ride away. Less than 3 minutes to change.
Phase 2.
Keep a set of "glueless" stick on patches (park brand), and fill up punctures tire with air, slowly pass next to cheek and feel for air, use wet finger to id specific puncture, patch, keep looking.
On mtb tires run stans.
Phase 3. Lock bike to light pole, go to Boston Pizza and order a pitcher of Molson.

How do you know about Boston Pizza?
And if we're at a chain restaurant, I'd hope for a pitcher Rickard's (white or red).

I've had a grand total of 6 flats, I think. One blowout from a nail, 3 from the thorn infused tire, a pinch flat a few weeks ago from going over our shitty roads, and last night's slow leak puncture. Prior to the blowout incident (in 2005, I think), I had ridden for ~12 years without a flat tire. I carried a good full size pump with me for most of those 12 years and never used it, but as soon as I got my new bike (in 2005) and went CO2, I've been cursed with flats.

Down with flats!!

It seems to be multi-faceted, but centered around what I'd best describe as "cultural expectations. . . "

I'll have a full report after the meeting tonight.
