I used to need two weeks off at a time (although I rarely took that). The first week was needed to wind down from all the stress and become human again. The second week was "real" vacation.

My situation is that I just finished a term of school a couple weeks ago and am off until September. What's even shittier is that I don't have money so travelling is down to a bare minimum - during the nicest weather of the entire freaking year!!!
