Actually you spelled cheque wrong! 
Besides, I've noticed that writing cheques is much more popular in the US than it is here. Most people just use debit - it's instant and you don't have to worry about cheques bouncing or being forged or whatever.

Just pay the man at the end of the month... Using debit habitually is very risky and offers no rewards. Credit gives you more leeway if your card gets borrowed and many have reward programs (cash back, airline miles, etc).
