I'm not typically an overly cynical person, and I do believe that there are people that DO take pride in their work, but the trend in our society has tended more towards "how much money can I get for this job description" rather than "how can I do this job the best or most efficiently."

I don't just mean programmers or managers or secretaries...but every industry and at all levels of companies.

This is a lesson I learned to appreciate early on in my career.

I know many people that will earn more money than I do over the course of their lifetime, but fewer that will have as good a quality of life.
