Silicon Valley
When I started in this biz, I couldn't talk to anybody about the things I did. I loved being a geek, but I was never a socially inept nerd. Anyway, the point is that a show about the kind of work I do would've never been popular, or even comprehensible to anyone outside the computer industry.
It just completely amazes me that this show is on the air, is a hit for HBO, and for that matter I cannot believe that anyone except my peers even knows what these guys are talking about and going through. FYI, the facts, tech, supporting stuff in this show is all accurate and current. The technical banter between the engineers, etc., is all real, not double-talk. I have only heard one slight mistake in all three seasons (Thomas Middleditch says "code assembly" instead of "assembly code" in the first season).
They've had a LOT of episodes that come really close to home for me. E.g., they had one where they were talking about whitespace (tabs vs. spaces) in source code. I can't tell you how many times I've had that same argument with co-workers.
For me, it's much closer to home than "Seinfeld" used to be... As a Jewish guy from New York, I always wondered why anyone found that show funny. I always thought that would be too esoteric for most people, but I was wrong about that in a big way. Silicon Valley... OMG.

I'm not a tech person, I usually rely on Hippie to keep me in the loop on what's going on in that world
BUT, I somehow get this show and absolutely love it. I feel like the way they go about the topic makes it easy for someone who knows nothing about that world, like me, to understand what's going on and get into it.
LOVE Silicon Valley.
I'm actually not surprised that the shows a hit. It's different, well directed, and feels authentic.
I will admit the latest season feels a bit like a precursor to something big, just a lot of mish mash of waiting for something big to happen (I haven't seen the season finale yet though)
