Having spent the best part of 5 years working in Tokyo, I feel that I have enough first hand experience to make the comment that probably 75% of those guys were not asleep because they were just tired, but were asleep because they had been drinking copious quantites of beer or sake for a few hours with their colleagues after work and were, as we English like to say, pissed as a fart !!!!!!!

I've heard a thing or two about Japanese work culture, and it's funny how different it is.
