hmm... when I try to sound out the characters, it looks more like "jal jahss suh" ... Why?

ah, yeah... if it ends in the S consonant, it sounds more like a T. ^_^

if you wanted to say "sah-ss" you'd have to write

사스

and it'd be two syllables instead of one.

because the line is like a "u" sound... so almost like "suh" but not as stressed, right?

sah su <--- like the 2nd "e" in blessed

yeah you could say that, but the sound is 95% S and 5% uh... or more like how "ugh" sounds when you say it
