Viva Las Vegas!!!!!
mom,
I have driven to vegas many times and this time I saw something that I never seen before.
When you are on the 15..get off in Jean..its the 2 hotel exit (with the showboat hotel) after State Line place.
Get off the 15..take a right.....then take a left after a mobil station..(you can't miss it..)
You then end up on a road that is the Strip. and was the orignial way to get into vegas on the Cali side.
Drive at a nice speed and you will see a White Cross on the right..
The cross said Jimmy D on it...so I am guessing that is where James Dean crashed and Died. Check it out and take a picture of it. we where driving fast and the people that were with me did not want to stop.
I want a picture of that cross to see what it says...all I made out was Jimmy D.

There may be a cross there inscripted "Jimmy D" but it's not the site of James Dean's demise...California State Highway 46 streaks eastward from the city of Paso Robles, near the northern edge of San Luis Obispo County, and cuts across gentle rolling hills and sweeping fields dotted with an occasional ranch.
It is a desolate, windblown vista, broken only by the squatty, weather-beaten buildings that make up the hamlets of Whitley Gardens, Shandon, and Cholame.
Almost twenty-five miles from Paso Robles, and less than a mile east of Cholame, the highway cuts through a gap in the Temblor Mountains, so named because the San Andreas Fault runs at their base.
Here the highway splits: 46 continues eastward to Bakersfield, and its branch, Highway 41, turns northeast toward Fresno.

This is the monument as it exists today.

Eagles James Dean lyrics
James Dean, James Dean
I know just what you mean
James Dean, you said it all so clean
And I know my life would look allright
If I could see it on the silver screen
You were the lowdown rebel if there ever was
Even if you had no cause
James Dean, you said it all so clean
And I know my life would look all right
If I could see it on the silver screen
We'll talk about a low - down bad refrigerator,
You were just too cool for school
Sock hop, soda pop, basketball and auto shop,
The only thing that got you off was breakin' all the rules
James Dean, James Dean
So hungry and so lean
James Dean, you said it all so clean
And I know my life would look all right
If I could see it on the silver screen
Little James Dean, up on the screen
Wond'rin' who he might be
Along came a Spyder and picked up a rider
And took him down the road to eternity
James Dean, James Dean, you bought it sight unseen
You were too fast to live, too young to die, bye - bye
You were to fast to live, too young to die, bye - bye
Bye - bye, Bye - bye, Bye - bye, Bye, bye
James Dean, James Dean
I know just what you mean
James Dean, you said it all so clean
And I know my life would look allright
If I could see it on the silver screen
You were the lowdown rebel if there ever was
Even if you had no cause
James Dean, you said it all so clean
And I know my life would look all right

I say that if you want to do some seat-of-the-pants driving between LA and Vegas, you need to head up the 14 and take the Pear Blossom Highway. When you get closer to Victorville there's a simple rule: If you haven't gotten airborne, you're going way too slow.
