OED annual subscription is pretty expensive too, if I remember correctly.

I suppose an OED subscription would be useful for the folks who take Scrabble seriously, eh Jack??

(like I care enough about my spelling and vocabulary to pay for OED site access... )

It's ridiculously expensive - $550 per year. I think the actual dictionary is around $2000. CD-ROM version might be a tad cheaper.

And of course there's the much more affordable Shorter OED, which my dad has.

I don't think Scrabble players would really take advantage of the OED. It'd for English fanatics.
