Carlson:

Proper procedure (after removing the dent), would be to wet-sand the area and then repaint the entire rear bumper to make sure that the paint is even. If they take the bumper off to fix the dent, the prep (tape and what not) would be minimal since the rest of the car would not be involved. If they don't they would have to mask the back of the car as they would if they were spraying the whole back of the car. My dad builds/restores cars and I have been doing this kinda thing in his shop since I was 14. It's how I would do it to provide a proper, OEM-quality repair.

don't paint the black part. It makes the car look like it's dragging ass. too much work involved anyway....

Bets of luck with the fix

Masking curves is not ridiculously hard for a professional shop. I have never tried it at a dealer, but I doubt the quality would be better that a reputable shop.

You know what I hate? I hate getting stuck behind a truck on a great twisty road with no passing zones and too much oncoming traffic.

Almost as bad is getting stuck behind a truck or other slow person on a great on-ramp.

They do that s**t in Tokyo?

I have a great story. Might be urban legend, but could definitely be real...

Guy in Campbell, CA (where they had speed cameras) gets nailed for speeding. A couple of days letter, he gets a picture of his car/tag along with a ticket in the mail. He takes a picture of a $100 bill and mails it to the police. The police then send him a picture of a pair of handcuffs... He pays the ticket!!

You gotta' love cops with a sense of humor!
