What you gotta understand is that for the most part, the modern "Western Art Music" (aka Classical) Composers mostly eschew the musical lexicon one gains from listening to pop music.
The 20th Century's catalog is proof that rules are made to be broken. . . and wacky thing is, by the mid-80's we were already on the road to staunch post-Modern gesture.
The 21st Century is gonna be jacked up; no two ways about it.
