Hello Everyone,
Please be aware of a DNS Changer Malware that is lurking on the internet which is supposed to show its ugly head on Monday, July 9. This malware basically changes the DNS (Dynamic name System) which is used to automatically convert the names we type in our Web browser address bar to the IP addresses of Web servers hosting those sites. Your computer will be rendered useless since it will forward all traffic to rogue websites and will prevent you from surfing the internet properly. Make sure to check your home PC’s and Macs this weekend to make sure your computer is not infected with this malware.
The FBI has posted a good article which is located at the following location: http://www.fbi.gov/DNS-malware.pdf that will walk you through the steps on manually checking your computer for this malware.
Unfortunately, if you do find this Malware on your computer, you will need to do a restore of your operating system. Make sure to backup your documents, pictures and music to an external hard drive before doing so.
Thank you,
Systems Engineering
