Why can't people just let some threads die!
I hold the title of 'Systems Engineer' which means that I got my position out of merit and experience, not college. I can't stand 95% of the engineers that I have to deal with mainly because they think they know how to fix everything, but in reality have no idea how the system they designed is actually put to use. What's worse, most of them couldn't even go out to the plane, and use the very system they friggin created.
The best part has to be knowing that they know that I get paid more than they do because I'm more useful!!! That's what REALLY ticks them off!
Of course, engineering the occasional
CORNERR - OOOOSKY!!!
never hurts!

ahhhh, so you have people actually working for you!
Another benefit is that we are placed with the customer, and part of our job is pointing out all of the flaws in our own product... ie, the company. That can be a lot of fun sometimes!

The other reason why you have to deal with so many stupid architects is because, quite frankly, it's a trial by fire process. You throw yourself into the mix and learn from it (like doing a residency for a doctor) before you take the licensing exam....In theory, you learn all you need to know...in practice this isn't always the case.
I don't know if what I am doing right now is EXACTLY what I want to do for the rest of my life, considering how many doors my degree opens....While I was in undergrad I did a bunch of different jobs...I was a cartoon animator, storyboard artist, concept writer (for short films), and art director. To be honest, half of me wants to move out to Cali and become a set/production designer just for the creative outlet.
