Thanks everyone

Charlie, I should be able to afford an S2000 quite comfortably now. The question is if I should leave myself with a bigger buffer should I lose my job or something (I know I'm way too careful sometimes). There are three dealers in the Chicago area with 2003 White S2000s (I guess don't aren't very popular), it's *very* tempting.

Evo, I've got job, and I *still* take public transportation.

I've got one with two 2002 (new) Suzukas, Jack. Give the word, and I'll bargain them down where you can't afford NOT to buy one!

Jack, seriously, that's a tough call. I'm really glad you've got the wherewithal now... My opinion, now that you've got property ownership, is that you should take the leap! First, see if you can cement your credit with a home equity line so you can see yourself through any rough patches. Then, go for it.

:crosses fingers for Jack to make the move he's happiest with!!:

Jack, just save up for a couple months or more, then get the car I know what you mean about the buffer, I'm not quite as anal as I used to be

Here's how to make yourself feel better. 401K.

I gotta' agree about the only live once thing... Unfortunately, I also agree that you should feel comfortable about making a purchase (any purchase)... Tough tradeoff.
