Jack Johnson, former heavyweight champion of the world, for whom the term "Great White Hope" was coined, was convicted of a violation of the Mann Act for transporting a woman across interstate lines for purposes of sex, fled the country, and was eventually knocked out in an outdoor arena in Havana, Cuba, in something like the 112th round by somebody, I think Primo Carnera. However, many at the time felt the fix was on because Johnson was seen shading his eyes from the sun while laying flat on his back.

Prior to being convicted of a violation of the Mann Act, Jack Johnson defeated Gentleman Jim Corbett for the heavyweight title.
