Work on Saturdays is pure hell!!!!
As for the salary/overtime bit, I have a somewhat unique perspective on it that I've developed over the years. Sometimes it works out for me and sometimes for my employer, but in the end I usually come out ahead...
I prefer to be salaried. I prefer to get paid to do a job as sort of a flat fee for the year. The caveat is that you pay me to do a job and NOT to hang out at an office. If I can get my job done in half the time then the rest of the time is mine. You can typically find me if you need me, but I won't be hanging around the office unless I want to be.
On the flip side, if you need me to work horrendous hours for a period of time, that's part of the job you hired me to do and it's my issue to deal with.
The only time I've had an issue with this is when the wage I'm being paid is already too low and working overtime only exacerbates the issue.
There are some jobs in this world that are and probably should be hourly w/ overtime no matter what. Any job that requires that you be on site 100% of the time and that has a strong liklihood of extra hours to be worked should be hourly unless you are in management. Management, to me, is a salaried gig. You get paid to lead and typically the wage differential between the worker bees and management is significant enough to make up the difference...
Sorry for the rant...I just woke up and am trying to clear my head before I "have" to go take care of MY job for the day...sitting at a Mariners baseball game!
