They have always made an "enthusiast" product...even before it was hip to. I remember my cousin has the little turbo hatchback 3...quirky little rocket.

mazda makes great chassis's

the second rx7 had a stiffer chasses than the 300zx that came out in 91. seven years before. they just didn't brag about it. Their PR sucks. about as bad as the neon sucks.
The RX-7's did impress me, mostly in styling. For their time, they had amazing body lines and styling. However, the reliability and cost for repairs on the rotary engine didn't impress me as much

The RX-7's lines stood the test of time, much like the Supra and NSX.

I would even go as far as saying the last turbo MR2s are still hot.

the rotary mostly had ancillary problems, overly complicated vaccuum system prone to breaking, the exhaust is so hot coming right of the rotor since it doesn't have a rotation to cool it will burn out the cats pretty fast, but the motor itself is solid. unless boosting it, but any motor will have a problem with that sooner or later...

and I agree the styling isn't groundbreaking, but you could always stuff big fat fatties in the wheel wells and that helps immensely
