Most middle and upper management exhibits the principle... people are (usually) promoted based on good performance to jobs that are over their head. Because our corporate culture does not allow demotions, most peter principled managers stay at a job that they're incompetent at.
Ah, I mis-wrote my last line - it was suppose to be "I never knew that you could not give someone a demotion".
Either way, its good knowledge to know that you always can be demoted in position and pay if you don't get the task done! I wish they'd do it more often, at previous jobs I hated reporting to an incompetent boss.

Speaking with a colleague here at work, he says that the Military definitely doesn't abide by that principle. They say that if someone isn't fit for their position, they have no problem in a demotion!
