Ah, I mis-wrote my last line - it was suppose to be "I never knew that you could not give someone a demotion".

Either way, its good knowledge to know that you always can be demoted in position and pay if you don't get the task done! I wish they'd do it more often, at previous jobs I hated reporting to an incompetent boss.

I think it's a big problem within government too. Probably bigger. The sense of entitlement to your position is much higher there.

Speaking with a colleague here at work, he says that the Military definitely doesn't abide by that principle. They say that if someone isn't fit for their position, they have no problem in a demotion!

Not surprising, at least in the operations side. Lives at stake is a bit different than tax payer dollars. The military bureaucracy is still Petered, I'm guessing.
