Actually.... I got a wicked lesson in ER etiquette last night. I went into the ER, saw Eric with his wife and family...
I looked at him, pointed at his stomach and asked if it was a boy or girl. He laughed, his wife sorta had a nervous laugh, his family was rolling, but uh..the other people in the ER weren't too amused.

My attempt at lightening the mood was um... well... not so well received..

Chalk it up to overworked health care workers being cranky. It not uncommon for people to use humour in situations like that - especially since you know your friend better than the staff and would know what's "appropriate" and what's not.
