Default Alarm systems?

It seems like the theft of S2000 parts has hit our area, anyone have an alarm they are happy with or can recommend? I guess it should have motion sensor's on it, anything else we should look for. I do not know much about alarm systems.

I always thought they were mostly worthless with the exception of 2 things.

1) get one that can text/call your cellphone or has some sort of pager

2) relocate the alarm horn so that it is inside the car (under the dash). Do this because in large most people completely ignore car alarms in public, and this way it would be very uncomfortable to be in the car when it is going off. Especially if you put it in a place where would be thieves would look for your safety button first (under driver dash usually).

Side note completely off topic, everyone should check their signatures and reorganize so that they are completely visible. There is a new height limit.

I have CompuStar. Its pretty good. It has many features that you probably don't need. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the bulky LCD remote.

Whatever you choose, remember the alarm is only as good as the install. Only go to a reputable shop to get it installed. The thing to watch out for, the thing that installer always cheap out on is installing a hood switch. Insist on getting this. Also, ask to get the generic 6-sound siren to sound using only 1 or 2 sound. A good installer should be able to do this. This way when the alarm goes off, you could tell that it's YOUR car.

Get something from DEI, Viper, Clifford, etc....

Motion sensors suck, they false to much. Tilt sensor is good for your new wheels. Get 2 way 1 mile range system if your that worried. Hood pins go bad, use a mercury switch. DEI sells Piezo Sirens, they are small and high pitched. I had just the horn linked with 2 of the mini sirens inside in each vent. It was unbearable to sit in the car with the siren going off.

Mercury switch is best, plus it looks cleaner, but don't work when you're parked up hill/down hill.

I'm still looking for an alarm that will somehow work (and not launch my car) in the event I leave the car in gear and accidentally use the remote start.

Probably my only hesitation on getting an alarm with remote start...

(I wonder if I'm going to make a roadtrip to see Jackson this summer )
