clutch install
hey guys i am hopefully going to be doing a clutch in stall at my friends house this weekend and its the first time we are doing one in a s2k. if there is anyone around north east md that has done one and is willing to come by and help please let me know, i will supply beer for you if you come help. lol thanks.
It is my daily and yes, hopefully. I'd like to finish it sooner then 8 hours. I know someone has to had to tips and tricks. Like tilting the motor back to get to the top transmission bolts. Has anyone tried that
When my mechanic and I did mine twice, long story, we removed the engine mounts and used a engine jack to tilt the motor back far enough to have the tranny slide out. It's still a pain in the ass to do
I've heard about those top transmission bolts. Look up s2000 transmission/clutch videos on youtube. Guys with power airtools banging away at the top bolt for like minutes straight at full bore show how tough that bolt is. If you're just doing it at home w/out some powertool help, beware...
When i pulled my motor i was planning on leaving the tranny in there but getting to the top 2 tranny bolts are close to impossible.... So i pulled the whole motor out with the tranny and had to have one person push down while the other used the hoist... but yeah if you've never done it before it'll take 8+ hours to do... you gotta take the shift boot off then the rubber thing and a plastic white ring that sits on top of it which i ended up cracking. then you gotta take the oil bolts off the oil pan, and all the bolts... Remember to take your clutch slave cylinder? the thing that sits on the side of your tranny off or you won't be able to take the tranny apart fromt he motor. get a honda service manual for the s2000 or just download on online and it'll be much easier to do.

yeah we have impact tools torque wrenches and so on. we have the tools to do it. we have fully built a ford focus until a 370whp focus from the ground up. i was just seeing what im getting into. i think the motor mount idea is probably going to be the approach i am going to take. Just pull the motor mounts and lower the motor a little bit to get to the top tranny bolts. we have a 24 inch extension and a couple 12 inches ones and alot of 6inch ones. we changed a clutch in a 06 sti before by tiliting the motor back. i think we can complete it over the weekend.
You don't need air tools. What you DO need a a VERY long extension. Like 3-4 feet in length. I just connect a bunch of 3/8in extensions together. The top bolts are not too bad if you can tilt the motor back enough.
If you doing this without a lift...I pray for u
