Thanks for the advice Paul,
Both the pads and fluid were changed about 2 weeks before the track. Axxis Ulitmate pads all the way around and SuperBlue 200 fluid. Upon visual inspection after the day things looked fine, and they still feel fine.
Gary thats my point. Your fluid will most likely need changing since it was new before the track. I actually cooked some motul in my 911 running at summit point, but that was before I had some decent pads on there. Either way it is better to be safe than sorry.
On a lighter side note, if anyone is interested I have a good connection to get some s2000's in on the pca club track events. They only require a broomstick test since they allow boxters in.
Dude you forgot me! I even took pictures of you--how could you forget me? I was with the Connecticut club on Monday running the South course and with the Del Val Miata club on Tuesday running the North course. Both days were a BLAST! You HAVE to track this car as soon as possible---that means EVERY S owner!
Paul, I'm interested in the PCA track days. Please let me know when and where.
John Oldt
P.S. Gary--If I were on the track with you I would have passed you! HAHA!
Just as a point of clarification since I reread my last post and it appears I can't type. We did let cars on the track WITHOUT roll bars and will do so next year as well. No excuses for not coming out.
Sorry I'm a little late on this thread.
First, Gary thanks for the pics I hope you can post more soon. It was nice to meet you, Crazylimey, and jfo.
Second, this event was awesome. It was well organized, and everyone I meet was cool. Although the S2k guys were the best
This was my first track event, and I can't believe I waited this long. It is a waste to only drive this car on the street, even sprited street driving can't come close to track driving. I was there both Monday, and Tuesday, and got about 200 track miles on my car in those two days. My speeds improved drastically the second day. I was lucky to have a great instructor the first day, and he taught me a lot.
Next year everyone needs to sign up for both days. On Tuesday there was a guy there with a brand new Viper. He had to pit halfway through the day because the driving was making him motion sick Day two also had some sad moments, when a guy driving a beautiful early 70's Corvette Stingray convertible lost it coming out of turn 5 and spun backwards into the wall destroying the rear end of the car.
The S2k held up great. My '04 is basically bone stock, and there was no brake fade, the tires held up well, the car never got close to overheating, it handled everything I threw at it without a problem. And those Miatas were great too. Anyone who looks down on a Miata or calls it a girls car or whatever has never been in one or seen one on a track. I got to ride with my instructor in his race prepped Miata and WOW that thing was amazing. In the right hands they are capable of passing much faster cars. Great little track cars, nothing but respect from me.
If anyone is reading this and has never tracked their S2k, get out there and do it! It is more fun then you can imagine. I am totally hooked, and will be looking to do this much more often. I already signed up for the Fall Colors run and will be doing the track/autocross day up there. I hope to meet more of you up there.
I agree. I am still buzzing from that day and looking for my next track day and track mods!
If you haven't looked already, go to the LVMOC site, there are over 300 pics of the day including a couple of you and Gary. There is also a link in the forum to a few vids of the track from a turbo Miata.
Im thinking of signing up for Fall Colors so hopefully will see you there although you guys may be a little harder to spot this time
I went through them again, and other than a bunch of Eliot, I didn't see many Suzuka pics.
I did however catch this nugget:
Page 11, picture 93. From the thumbnail, you may think this is just a nifty shot of Kirk (car #2) taking the #5 right hander and heading into the Nascar track.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo - Look again people.
There, in the background is car #71, with me driving. Notice what's next to me, getting passed. That's the best of American muscle, the Z06. Yes, the mighty S2000 is overtaking a Z06 on the high speed Nascar section of the track, not the tight little twisty infield section of the course.
For those of you who don't want to go to the Miata site for whatever reason:
