Jay, (and anyone else) if you don't have access to create events just let me know what your gmail account is and I can give you rights. Frank and Freq also have this ability.

Regular posts don't allow HTML for obvious reasons, an admin had to come by and enable it for us, so until he did, you saw the code they wanted to use, if that makes sense.

i see the same thing andy, sometimes its code and sometimes it works. and when im at work it says its blocked

Not sure. I'm using Fire Fox and I see it fine. I don't use Safari anymore, it doesn't work well with alot of the sites I use now.

Google calendar officially does not support Safari, you will need to use firefox or basically any browser except Safari.
