....One of the things we enjoy is watching the TV show "Survivor" together and goofing on all the idiots who are on it. Tonight was the first time in a 3 weeks we were able to do that together and it was very nice. We laughed and yelled at the TV like we usually do on Thursdays'. It was great to have some normalcy back in our lives.

You should know that a lot of your friends have the REAL "Survivor" story right here on-line
We've all been looking for your nightly posts and riding the ups/downs along with you and Michele. And we're really, really glad that it looks like a happy ending is building for the story! Also neat to hear that Zippy and Nancy have been able to provide such good support to you.Jerry

Michele is improving her new liver is reacting better than ever but still has some more to go. She has a minor issue, one of her bile ducts is leaking. This is common among living donor recipients and more than likely it will heal on it's own. She is eating a bit on her own and continues on i.v. TPN overnight for nutrients. So things are moving along nicely for the moment.
Tomorrow we will know when she will be released from the hospital and plans for her physical therapy.
Kristen came over to the hospital today for a visit, she is doing well but her days still revolve around naps and her appetite is still not was it use to be. She was able to make the Orioles baseball game yesterday but was exhausted afterwards.
Till tomorrow

The rollercoaster continues.........Michele's liver is showing more signs of improvment. She was accepted to that rehab center and is slated to go there wed which is what we hoped for.
But...... her bile duct is still showing signs of leaking in her drain. The Doc's are concerned the leak is not healing on it's own but are perplexed b/c her blood work is so good. They will do a hidascan(sp) to see how bad the leak is. They may have to operate again to repair it. We are hoping they will not have to.
Anyway tommorow they will make that determination.
Let's pray they don't have to operate on that bile duct.

this sounds like three steps forward to every one step back...in which case the 2 of you are still heading in the right direction. it sounds as though they want to get everything "cleaned-up" before she goes to rehab, which is exactly the way it should be.
peace, mike.

OK good news to report. Upon further discussion with the lead surgeon Michele's bile duct leak is not much of a concern. They will leave her drains in for a little while longer and we will monitor the flow from them. They are optimistic today after her latest blood test that the leak is minor and will heal on it's own. Her liver, kidney's function are improving greatly over the past 2 days.
So tomorrow she will be released from the hospital and moved to Betty Bacharach rehabilitation center in Pomona, NJ. This place has a good rep for rehab and she will remain there till she gets strong enough to go home or when her insurance runs out
Michele will have to go back to the hospital for follow up every Tuesday till they feel comfortable with her progress and then every 2 weeks, monthly, and finally every 6 months.
This is very good news and we are very pleased. Her recovery in such a short period of time although ther were many ups n downs is remarkable and let's hope 2 weeks from now we will be able to see even more strength out of her.
So I will update everyone on her first day in rehab tomorrow and then perhaps my updates will be weekly and life will get back to some normalcy.
Thanks to everyone who had such kind words, encouragement, and support during the last 3 weeks it helped mucho.
Till tomorrow

I've been following this amazing story and it is riveting on many levels mainly because of your talent for clear and concise yet passionate writing.Just make sure those drains don't get pulled till bile leak is stopped. It is not uncommon ,but a nuisance. The liver is also less sensitive to minor rejection than say kidneys. We all hope the two of you can enjoy normalcy and sunset drives soon!
