Default S2000 Ignorance

The S2000 has now been a presence on the road for 5 model years now, and I am always surprised at the comments people say about them. I know there are not many of them on the road, but you would think by now folks would have seen one or two. Here is two examples of what I mean.....

1. Last summer I was stopped by an Accord driving, retired gentleman in the Ocean City Acme parking lot. He asked me why I put Honda "Hubcaps" on my Miata. I paused. Then I tried to explain to him about the car..... he stopped me mid-explanation and said that "HIS Honda dealer doesn't sell a car like that!"

Yesterday was worse......

2. My Suzuka is parked out front of my house. My neighbor's landscaper stops me and says "I didn't know that the Hyundai Tiburon came as a convertible." I didn't know how to respond to that statement. Several different emotions and responses flashed through my head. Not wanting to have another experience like last summer, I said "No it doesn't. MTV came to my house and Pimped it for me." He said, "Cool."

Does this happen to any of you, or do I attract all the idiots?

Someone please... talk me off the ledge!

Jim

I have been dealing with it for almost 5 years. Especially with Rick's badges. Most comments are kind and just inquisitive. Never had any "oh, its just a Honda comments. I love it when I am stopped at a light and people lean forward trying to figure it out. Comments range from is that a new BMW model, Looks like a Miata, Looks like a Porch (Porsche) from the truly clueless. I just take it in stride and motor on.

Early this morning, I had to back the S out of the garage to make room in the driveway for two young guys waiting to pull off the road with their van (doing some roofing work here).

Later, as I'm finishing breakfast on the patio nearby, one of them says, "By the way....nice car!" I just said thanks, but it did start my day off on a nice note...

In general, the usual comments that I get have been like Ray's....mostly surprised that it's a Honda but impressed

My most popular comment is; "That's a beautiful car!" Which is usually followed by...."What kind of car is that"?

Paying for some stuff at a Walgreens the other day the cashier was bugging my about a store coupon that would have saved me 99 cents. When I refused it twice cuz I was in a major hurry (and seeing her cashiering skills ) this older woman next in line started on me too "you should save your money son"... what ever, so I'm backing out of my parking spot and the older woman that was next to me comes walking to her car and now says to me... "now I see why you couldn't care less about the coupon, you car is beautiful..."

I smiled and drove away
