Default S2000 vs. 911 Turbo & Challenger SRT-8

A couple quick videos from my August event at Thunderbolt. I could have run a bit quicker, but I was coasting down the second half of the front straight as I was on the last few millimeters of brake pad life. Didn't want to experience welding my brake pads to my calipers.

First video is letting a new 911 (997) Turbo pass, then trying my best to keep him in sight. Only lost about 3 seconds a lap to him.

Second video is against a Challenger SRT-8. It was a good run, I didn't attempt a pass as I would hold him up on the front straight with how I was running. Pretty predictable, I could gain on him in the turns, and he could pull on the longer straights.

Don't know if I posted this one, but this was from Pocono with the DelVal Miata club from July. Tried a new mounting point for the camera.

North Course....one of my favorites!

When comparing your line to mine, I take a much wider line that you. On turn 3, I usually follow those white dots, and let the car slide way out up towards the wall...not sure why, but my car gets much more grip out there then trying to hold it tight.

I also notice when coming off the super speedway, and into the infield, I brake nearly straight at that last cone before making the right, and literally just crank the wheel as had as I can before smashing hte gas...I've noticed doing that (for my car) I actually get less tire spin, then going in early and exiting wide...

Not to say either is right nor wrong, just cool to compare cars Always enjoyable! I like that Camera angle as well!!

Cheers guys

Cody - yes, following the white squares up is the more correct line, however I tend to take that line around the bowl just to stay on the side of safety. The potential outcome of losing it in that turn can be very, very ugly.

The scariest thing is that I could have very well trashed it in that corner. I went up to that event with a brand new set of tires. The guy mounting the tires was pretty much incompetent it turns out....one of the rear tires wasn't mounted properly and the right rear bead failed and blew out on me in the infield. I was going towards the left-hander at the end of the short straight (running the circuit clockwise) and the back end swung out immediately upon turn-in (I saved it ). Anyway, imagine if it happened 30 seconds sooner or later, right in the middle of the bowl. Thank God it didn't.

On top of that, the shop that did it denied any fault in workmanship, even after I sent TireRack pics and their people pinned it on installation error. So I got to buy two new tires (Dunlop Star Specs because the RE-01Rs I have are discontinued).

Besides, I didn't really need to push it any harder, I was already outpacing everyone in my group with the exception of one Corvette

I had the volume turned off and it was nice to watch Gino so casually shifting gears, almost like it was Sunday and he was driving some back road to his favorite ice cream stand.

SSSSSMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTHHHH.

damn gino that was awesome.

in the first video , first 30 seconds or so , how fast were you going? also on the straightaway in the 3rd video how fast did you reach?

i would love to take a ridealong in your car. you look like youre just out for a cruise haha.

the new mounting point outside the car was awesome. too bad the sound is not as good but you can see your hand placement as well as a better sense of how fast youre going.

That looks awesome. I like the outside mounting position as you can see what you are doing, just a bit noisy. I have to send the one from the Pocono's to a friend at work that runs his m3 up there. He wiped out on the right hander after the long straight last year or the year before and took out some fencing. He was not happy about it, but walked away.

You have something against my favorite ice cream stand?

Seeing how easily I reeled in the Stanley Vidmar machine and Mr. AP2 hater I question if you guys are shifting at all I've got video proof too

Matt - I usually get up to 115-120 or so on longer straights, and about 100 on short ones. Past that I usually don't bother and just sandbag it unless I've got somebody I'm trying to chase down, especially at this last event at Thunderbolt as my brake pads were low. I did 125mph down the front straight on Lightning my first season with OEM pads (BAD IDEA)... brake pad fade, rock hard pedal, zero stopping power for about a second. I was lucky to only stick 1 wheel off.

Come up to Pocono next year, Don got a ride along this year with a few of us. He was in my car when I went power sliding turning onto the big turn. Full opposite lock and I was driving looking out the side window, didn't spin it though. Good times.
