Trade in value
How do I find out the most accurate value for my 2000 S2K. I might be trading in the Spring for an 04 and I am trying to get some ideas of current value. Also, would my 00 be worth more with a new engine which was just installed 1000 miles ago? Thanks for any advice. Ray

from working at a dealership, kelly blue book and edmunds they really dont go to much by that, dealerships usually offer you less than that. Your best bet if you could is sell it outright you will get a lot more money for it, but if you have to the best place to trade it in is a honda dealership for they will pay more for it than any other would. Good Luck though.

Trade in value is based on a couple factors. Mileage of course and condition. Living in Delaware, you are better trading in the spring and summer. Having just put a new motor in does not really matter much, unfortunately. If you can sell it yourself you will get more, but you lose the tax savings unless you can coordinate the buyer to wait until you buy yours. Than you can courtesy trade it.

Ya, i agree with jay, trade it in when the S2000 would be a more desirable car hence warmer weather when it will be easier to sell, and the whole tax break, see what you can work out with your dealer we did the whole you sell your car to someone then they do the paperwork at the dealership you give the dealership like i think we charged $200.00 or somthign and you save the rest on the taxes and the dealership will be the ones dealing with the title transfer and tags and registration.......i had forgotten about that good call jay.

Ray, I've toyed with the idea and have suggestions:
*talk to a dealer or two now in January....get their current deal....gives you a basis for future discussions. I've done this over the past couple of weeks at my dealer....trade-in offer in high teens for my MY 00 with 49k daily driver miles. Your perfect specimen should get a figure in the low 20's....?
*start serious discussions in very early March....be ready to make the deal by the end of March. You should catch a good deal while dealer is still hungry from the winter doldrums.
*OTOH, if you don't have a lot of miles (?), you should probably keep your "classic" and spend the >$10k delta on a daily driver....

The dealer, who did nothing for me when I had my convertible top issue and blown engine issue, is not giving me much off sticker on an 04 and being a 38 year customer has no leverage. If I decide to get an 04 I am thinking of flying to Ganley honda for $100. and getting an 04 from Jeff Goetz for $30,995 then drive it back to DE (10 hour drive) pay the 2% tax and tell my dealer to pack sand. I can also get some dealer installed options (front spoiler, 6-disc changer, alarm, etc for a significant savings over my wonderful dealership. If I decide the plan would be for me to advertise my car in the spring, sell it then pick up the 04 from Jeff. I think I could get around 20K for my 00 so the diff would be about 11K plus options. Of course one option would not be the worthless extended warranty.
