Default UPDATED:end of spindle chewed all to hell......

I removed the spindle nut on the drivers side rear, and as I did, it chewed up the threads. I cannot put the nut back on, for obvious reasons. I am sure that the repairs will NOT be covered under warranty, and I'm gonna be financially raped by the dealer.

As some of you know, I have brought my car to the dealer twice in the last 2 weeks, for noise coming form the back of the car. I checked out alot of things on my own, plus tried a few suggestions made by the dealer. Obviously nothing worked, and I tried to remedy the problem myself, and now I have a bigger problem.

I am unsure what will happen, and how much this will cost me in the end, a couple of grand Im sure, but I will keep people updated.

Any suggestions or advice welcome. I know I will be critized as well, so

Why wouldnt it be covered?

If the dealorship had the car the past two times, you have documentation that they serviced your car. Tell them the car has gotten progressively worse since they repaired it. They will lie, you can lie

When you "removed" the nut, did you un-peen the edge that is bent into a notch on the spindle? If not that's what chewed up the threads. The threads can be cleaned up using a thread file or a very small triangular file. This will be tedious and time consuming but can work. The other thing that you could try is to get a "thread chaser" it's similar to a thread die but is designed to reform damaged threads. A good machine shop can help you with this. The large metric size will be tough to find. You will need a new nut DO NOT try to reuse the old one. If all fails you will need to replace the axel. Not thousands but it will approach $1,000 if done at a dealer. Good luck

i ordered a new cv joint. this will work so i dont have to replace the whole axle. i did pry the indentation on the nut before I tried to remove it. It was pretty bad. I will however also find out in this repair if my wheel bearing is bad, as that wwhat I believe was wrong in the first place. if so, it will be going back to the dealer.

i want to thank everyone for the advice since this problem first started. this website/forum has helped with so much in the past

I picked up my new left rear outer cv joint thursday, and installed it on saturday. It came with the cv joint(already packed with grease, and sealed in a heavy gauge plastic bag) a spindle nut, new boot with both clamps, and a bottle of grease.

All the work took probably a total of about an hour and 15 minutes. In the process however, I did find out my left rear wheel bearing is starting to go bad. I thought it was though, and had brought it to the dealer about it twice and they did nothing.

At least my car is back on the road after about 9 days, and it felt good to drive it, especially since I was driving my wifes civic for that time frame.
