I hear a lot of people say they want to go see a movie because it stars so-and-so. Personally, I've always thought that the best predictor of the quality of a movie was who directed it, not who stars in it. More generally, the most important people in various media are:

Movies: director
Plays: writer
TV series: producer

The actors can have an influence, for sure, but their ability to influence the overall experience is usually limited.

But then again, pulp fiction just woulnd't be the same without Sam! So I guess it can go both ways.

Scarface without Pachino
ect...
