Default Before Sunset

Few indie films ever get a sequel. "Before Sunset" is the sequel to the indie film "Before Sunrise." Originally released in 94', Before Sunrise was a small film and became a cult classic. Director Richard Linklater and actors Julie Delphy and Ethan Hawke decided that there was some kind of magic with the characters (Jesse and Celine) they played in Sunrise. The characters made a cameo in Linklater's film "Waking Life" and that was when they decided to go on with a sequel.

I have to admit, being such a fan of "Sunrise", I was worried about this film. So many times you are disappointed by sequels and then you end up hating the whole series because it wasn't done correctly.
"Before Sunrise" had an open ended ending which left the audience to draw their own conclusions to what happened. This really worked for the first film, however it created high expectations for a sequel.

I'm happy to report that "Before Sunset" was done PERFECTLY! Yes that's correct, this was...dare I say, BETTER than "Sunrise!"

The appeal of the "Sunrise" was that it was so cleverly written and realistic. "Sunset" does not disappoint in the same delivery...yet the content was very refreshing.

The movie was filmed almost in realtime, with uninterrupted shots. This was spectacular, as you felt like you were there for the whole time Jesse and Celine were together. All the elements of Linklater's style were there: It was clever, deep, emotional and moving. It was wonderfully written and well acted. Hard to find that now a days in Hollywood.

I'm not going to give the movie away here but I will tell you this film is definately for romantics at heart. There are some great moments that are really heart felt and if you allow yourself to feel for the characters...you will get your admission worth. I swear I was falling in love with Celine after watching the movie...she really shined in this film. The movie was so good, I really didn't want it to end. But the ending was PERFECT.

This was the best film I saw all year and maybe one of my all time favorites. If you haven't seen "Before Sunrise"....GO SEE THAT ....then see this.

I give Before Sunset 5 out of 5 stars.
